BeachesOne of the best beaches in the country is at Holkham with its vast expanse of golden sand, pinewoods and dunes, which is used regularly for Stills, TV and Film shoots, most notably the closing scene in ‘Shakespeare in Love’. Norfolk can also boast a range of different beaches from the stretches of shingle at Cley, Blakeney Point and Cromer to the marshes at Stiffkey with its sea lavender and on to the interesting cliff formations of Hunstanton. Access to most of the coastline is good with certain areas allowing vehicular access with the appropriate permission

Ports, Harbours and PiersThe two principal ports in Norfolk are Kings Lynn with its 17th century customs house, and Gt Yarmouth, with a busy commercial cargo operation. Other smaller harbours include Wells-next-the sea a popular boating and yachting centre. Smaller characterful harbours include North Norfolk’s Blakeney Quay and Burnhan Overy Staithe, where you will find original weather boarded fishermen’s cottages and chandleries.

Coastal PropertiesDotted around the full length of Norfolk’s coastline are a variety of homes, many of the buildings are timber lap- boarded bungalows some right on the beach and others are more substantial buildings in Sea side resorts. Due to coastal erosion some villages have disappeared and others are in the process of being claimed by the sea leaving some homes precariously positioned on the edge of cliffs. Other coastal buildings include an 18th century lighthouse and a converted windmill and houseboats.
